This channel features videos of my powered parachute flights around central Indiana. My flight videos are longer than normal since I create them for the local residents to be get a nice aerial view of the area in which they live and I want to show them as much as possible. During most flights I also take along a camera to get still photos, which can be seen on my Facebook page (link below).
I love comments so please leave questions, comments and feedback (good or bad).

My good friend and flying buddy Randy and his wife stayed at our house for a few days and we got lucky and had good flying weather. Randy & I went out to raise hell over Shelby County, Indiana and had a great time. Unfortunately, Randy's radio wouldn't transmit, but he could at least hear me.

It had been a month since my last flight and only my third flight of 2024 so i was taking it easy and trying to get back in the groove and build up the flying muscle memory. Beautiful evening flight to southeast Shelby County, then on to the Honda plant just outside Greensburg, IN then back toward home for some low level shenanigans.

Beautiful pictures, liked that you talked about them as you clipped them into your video! So you used 8 gallons of fuel on this flight?
2 gallons left and I measured my tank actually holds 11, so used 9.
He has a way heavier machine, as well. Nice landing, too.
Hey Scott have you flown a PD 500 or 550 and can compare? I am looking at buying a PPC that has the Apco Cruiser 550 - But my instructor is a hard core Performance Designs guy and says to try to stick to that. :\
I flew a PD when I was in training for my sport pilot PPC certificate. It's been so long that I don't recall how it handled. However, my Dream Machine had an Apco dovetail chute when I purchased it. I put about 15-20 hours on it before I sent it in for inspection and it failed. That's when I purchased the Cruiser 500 (back in 2017) and haven't looked back. The Cruise is awesome.
@@ScottRichardson_PPCthanks my friend.
@@AlpineWarren You're welcome. You'll be very happy with the Cruiser.
A great flight with Alex! I really like the old school Ice Cream Shop next to the airport.
It is a fun place to fly to. Greensburg (I34) has a new runway and I need to scope it out before I fly down that way again.
New to the sport, wondering what your common setup. What helmet and headset?
A favorite video, nice work! Does Brent still have his power parachute for sale?
Thanks a lot! Yep, it's still sitting in the hangar next to my machine and last I heard he still wants to sell it.
Great video and pics
What GPS system do you use ?
I just use an app on my iPhone called MotionX-GPS, but that app is no longer available.
Your home country sure is pretty. Looks like Utah's Cache Valley. Green and wet. But how on earth do you know which way is East and which is West without any mountains??
I fly really high until I can see the mountains out in Utah LOLOLL!
That was one of the most fun flights I have ever had. I wish that my radio worked, but I got it working now :-) Thanks for the memories :-)
Hey Scott what is your helmet/headset combo? I like it!
The helmets/headsets are from Comtronics Aero. Info on my setup is here: drive.google.com/file/d/1FsFW_ZYC7A6Xocd7LU5Tfd-vjwVAMCO3/view?usp=drive_link
@@ScottRichardson_PPC thank you sir!
Another video to motivate my escape from California and move to the Midwest. Thanks Scott!
Get out of California as quickly as you can! Much better living out here in "flyover country".
We have those incredible sunsets flying out of KAEG but the pictures don't come out of a 172SP as nicely as yours do in that convertible setup. You could feel the serenity on that flight.. such a great feeling.
I love my convertible and rag wing LOL! In my opinion, the powered parachute is the perfect platform for aerial photography. Low, slow and no windows!
What are the square brackets on your steering bar for?
Foot rests, which I never use because I have short legs LOL!
I'm really enjoying your flight videos. What PPC are you running?
It's a 1999 Buckeye Dream Machine. Info here: drive.google.com/file/d/1fcS4aMQvkc_mKzR3z7YTIJIQ0WDI3LYK/view?usp=drive_link
@@ScottRichardson_PPC Thanks for the information! Your videos are inspiring!!
@@nathanhoughton8951 I'm glad you like the videos. I've been contacted by many people who have taken up flying powered parachutes after watching my channel. It's very humbling and I'm so glad I can inspire people to take the leap. It takes a lot work, but the end result is so worth it!
Im glad I get to watch you fly Scott. The rats ate a dang hole in my wing when I had it out on standby to evacuate from fires. Uhhhhgggg. Saving money for wing now. You still recommend the Apco cruiser? Good to see you up and flying as always sir!
Aaaaaaghhhh, darn rats! Yes, I still highly recommend the Apco Cruiser. It's a great wing.
Thanks Scott..from Orlando ♥
You're welcome!
Scott great pictures. You definitely know a thing or two about a camera.
Thanks! Yep, been around a camera for about 50 years.
Scott, approximately how long does it take you to fly 100 miles?
It all depends on the wind. In calm air it would take about 3 hours, which is just shy of my maximum endurance (limited by fuel). I have done one 3-hour flight since I've been flying, that flight is here: ua-cam.com/video/JovMaTphS5c/v-deo.htmlsi=n_zRdop1aECzugP1
I have not had to deal with any line issues YET, but it sure would help if you could have included a better explanation of exactly what a tension knot is and perhaps a photo or two to help others understand them better. They are not mentioned at all in the FFA Powered Parachute Handbook. I'm going to try to remember to ask one our local CFIs about that subject next time I see them. By the way, Scott, I really DO ENJOY your great videos. Greetings from Utah.
A tension knot occurs when 1 more more lines get tangled together (a single line can get twisted) and when they are put under tension at takeoff, they tighten into a knot. When you get a knot in the lines, the effective line length changes, causing a deformation in the shape of the parachute. This can result in several issues, including a turning tendency, which is what I experienced right after takeoff. Thanks for watching my videos!
That was a great day for a great ride....it was my 70th birthday. I'd like to see how you have your bird set up....looks sweat! See you next time!
Happy birthday! Here's a link to an old article I wrote that shows my setup. I need to update it a bit. drive.google.com/file/d/1fcS4aMQvkc_mKzR3z7YTIJIQ0WDI3LYK/view?usp=drive_link
So I’m not too old to learn. ,,72. .?!?
What Paramotor are you flying ?
It's not a paramotor, it's a powered parachute (there is a difference!). It's a 1999 Buckeye Dream Machine with an Apco Cruiser 500 parachute. Detailed info here: drive.google.com/file/d/1fcS4aMQvkc_mKzR3z7YTIJIQ0WDI3LYK/view?usp=sharing
Another great video. Thanks Scott!
Thanks!
Love the river cruising. Beautiful area!
That was a bumpy ride at first. That take off was scary. I really enjoy your videos scott. Those two gopros really get some awsome views.
It was a bit bubbly indeed! Glad you enjoy the videos and thanks for watching!
This is a tough call, but I’m gonna say this is my favorite PPC video.
You showed a video once that showed where a jetliner crashed in Indiana. I saw a video of that airliner crashing, but do not know where it crashed. Could you tell me where just for my knowledge?
allegheny853.net/
beautiful um to fly a powered parachute does one have to wear a helmet?
No. I just choose to wear one.
Always nice to fly with someone
Yes it is!
is your radiator half covered because the temp is so low at flying altitude?
No, it's definitely not because of altitude because I don't fly that high. For some reason this engine just runs very cool and I need to keep the radiator partially covered to get the proper temps (145-165). I usually run coolant temps of around 155-160. Without the cover it runs at 135 deg or so.
Wow! Just, wow! You capture the beauty, fun and adventure of flight better than any other UA-cam channel. Keep it up. One day I may fly!
Great vid, looking forward to more
You fly so close to me. I’ll be operating out of Lewis Airfield near Milan.
Nice! I'm gonna have to get down there and fly with you for sure.
Thanks for another great ride!
Awesome picture of the eagle looking back at you freaking awesome. I gotta get a copy with your signature 👍
Thanks! It was really watching me for sure.
Hey Scott I have yet another question for you. Do you know what the plug type on your comtronics helmet are called?
It's just a 1/4" mono audio plug.
Do powered parachutes tip over on take off as paratrikes do? I crashed mine on take off and thought maybe powered chutes are harder to roll over. I truly enjoy your videos Scott.
Yes, they can tip over, especially in crosswinds. Part of the training to fly a PPC is to avoid those scenarios which could induce a tip-over and also to abort the takeoff if the parachute is rocking and not stable.
Landed by chance on your channel . Loved this video. Andrés from Santiago, Chile.
Way cool, welcome to my channel and hope you enjoy my other adventures.
I want one so bad!! Love your videos because you fly over places I know.
I need to get up in one of these! More importantly, I need the wife to go up and get excited for me to buy one.
It is a lot of work for the sport pilot training, but it is so worth it! Go for it!
@@ScottRichardson_PPC studying right now.
@@TimDonk Excellent!
It is always enjoyable to watch you fly out of Nulltown or into Nulltown. It is good to see you back flying again. Keep up the work good work.
Thanks, it's a very cool place from which to fly.
Scott what are wind speed that you fly in. Do you mostly watch the wind gust? And at what wind speed.
I try to keep it 8 mph or under with no or minimal gusts (they are a real pain when laying out the parachute!).
Glad to see you once again up in the air. Enjoyed the video. As a favor/request, as an old Golden Bear, I'd love for you to do a couple of orbits around my old Alma Mater to see the changes on one of your journeys. Thanks for allowing me to come along virtually!

Hey I just flew my new apco 500 last saturday I was amazed how quick it kited and flew.
Apco Cruiser?
It’s about freaking time you post a new video 😂.. I always look forward to them brother.. thanks
Tell me about it LOL! Hoping to change that in the coming days/weeks. I just haven't flown a whole lot since last October.
I didn't see anyone working the fields. They must have all been eating supper. Lol! Thanks!
If you look closely you'll see a ton of water standing in a lot of the fields. We got a lot of rain (3-4") so the farmers were waiting for things to dry out. They just planted most of our fields last night, but we have one bottom field that is still wet.
Nice flight. I visited Greensburg last year. Where did you learn to PPC? Alex.
I learned to fly from Paul Whybrew, a CFI who used to live in Fortville, IN. Sadly, he passed away in early 2018.
@@ScottRichardson_PPC thanks, I spotted Midwest ppg but definitely would want ppc if I can. Hopefully they can square me away.
Love watching these!! Let me know if you ever go up Goshen way!
Thanks! Turns out I'm going to be up at Countryview Powered Parachutes (Darrell Martin) up in Wakarusa (about 7 mi west of Goshen) May 24-27, 2024. Hopefully the weather will be good as there could be 12-15 powered parachutes up there that weekend. Should be fun!
Nice to tag along
Glad you're back.
Thanks a lot! now I'm just waiting for decent weather.
